Howard Piggott and Flying Cloud Inaugural Winners of Queensland Season of Sail Cup.
Following a strong performance in the Sydney to Gold Coast Race in July, finishing fourth in IRC Div 3 and contending against Doyle-powered rivals Occasional Coarse Language (3rd) and Pisces (5th), Howard Piggott's Beneteau First 40 Flying Cloud pursued a highly successful three Regatta campaign culminating in being awarded the inaugural Queensland Season of Sail Cup.
Piggott commented: "The adventure starts for us with the Sydney to Gold Coast race at the end of July, then, from there, it becomes a leisurely cruise into the tropics and on to Hamilton Island for Race Week. That’s the real reward: superb hospitality, ideal sailing conditions, and lots of fun."
Airlie Beach Race Week
With light conditions prevailing Flying Cloud, carrying a full suite of Doyle Stratis sails, battled against close contenders Tulip and Brilliant Pearl to take the overall win in the seven race IRC series at Airlie Beach Race Week (held 9-16 August).
Winds picked up during the final race, helping Flying Cloud to a triumphant first place and clinching the series, demonstrating once again that Doyle sails are the performance sail of choice.
Hamilton Island Race Week
Flying Cloud had another successful campaign during Hamilton Island Race Week, (16th to 24th August) again carrying a full complement of Doyle Sails. Flying Cloud finished a convincing third in the six race IRC Passage Div 2 Series, being only narrowly beaten by Andy Kearnan’s L’Altra Donna which sported a brand new Doyle Stratis ICE J2.
Magnetic Island Race Week
Rounding up a tremendous season of racing Flying Cloud took overall third in the six race IRC Division 1 series at Magnetic Island (29th August-3rd September) after nail biting jousts with Quest and Guilty Pleasures V.
