News Division win for Red Kite 2 in King's Cup 2013

15 Dec 2013

Doyle Sails offer their congratulations yet again to Anthony Root and his Red Kite 2 team, who have just won their division in Asia’s most prestigious regatta, the King's Cup. Following on from their recent wins in the China Coast Regatta and Hong Kong – Vietnam Race, and having proved almost unbeatable in Hong Kong for the past four years, the boat continued on towards Thailand for their first shot at the King's Cup.

Sailing in a mixed division against a fleet of competitive boats, their biggest challenge was against Matt Allen’s Ichi Ban team, who were the defending champions, on their Adams 10m. After a week of tight racing, including a mix of Windward/Leeward and Island courses, the Red Kite team were delighted to come out with an overall win, 6 points ahead of Ichi Ban.

Doyle NZ’s Andy Pilcher joined the team as a trimmer, and local Auckland yachting identity Kevin Peet was key to their success in the role of Mainsheet trimmer/tactician. Red Kite 2 sails with a full inventory of Stratis sails, manufactured by Doyle NZ. Their inventory included a Stratis ICE Mainsail and Code 1.5 Jib, which were used to great effect during the regatta.

The Kings Cup win puts Anthony and Red Kite 2 on top of the ladder for the Asian Yachting Grand Prix, which calculates the top boat overall, over all classes and regattas, throughout the Asian Yachting Circuit for the whole season. Next up from RK2 is the Royal Langkawi International Regatta, from the 13th – 18th January.

We offer our congratulations again on their win at the King's Cup and wish the team best of luck next month in Langkawi.
