The X-Yachts regatta was run in November on Sydney Harbour, where the yachts were greeted with calm conditions and a leftover smoke haze from the recent bushfires. The smoke haze was a muse for the conditions to come.
Within 30 minutes the conditions had changed from light headsails and full mains to decisions between #3 or #4 headsails and whether to reef. The afternoon saw gusts of between 18 and 33 knots of true wind. The IRC division sailed 2 windward leeward courses. These short sharp races put an emphasis on sail trim and crew work. The typical land breeze in Sydney has major fluctuations in direction and strength which made for challenging racing.

The overall winner was Toybox 2 owned by Ian Box. She finished with two firsts on corrected time a line honors win.
Toybox 2 has a full Doyle inventory and was using her new Stratis ICE Mainsail; it was he first time this sail had been reefed. She carried spinnakers on all downwind legs and performed admirably on all points of sail.
Congratulations to Ian and his crew. Also a big thank you to RANSA for running the regatta and setiing the course and to X-Yachts and Andrew Parkes for a great day on the water.
